I'm newer than a newbie. My friends keep asking me what the "c" stands for, what's the "i" for?

I get the numbering scheme 325 means 3 series 2.5L engine. Does "c" mean coupe? What's the "i" for? Sometimes I see reference to 325cic. Does the extra "c" just mean convertible or cabriolet?

I know "x" means all wheel drive and "L" means long, as in huge.

You've come to the right place for newbie questions. Every other board would prolly just flame you before you get a legit answer. Feel free to ask away any other questions. Wadula pretty much covered it.

If you see an L, that stands for long wheelbase. Like on the 7 series. It can be Li or iL depending on the year. I think the current 7 series changed to Li from iL. No idea why though.

There's a post somewhere on here that explains E and all the other letters you'll see on BMWs too.

Trunk Only

Althought 330cic is a valid model designation. The trunk will not have the trailing "c". Something tells me, the convertible feature is probably pretty noticible. :)

heh i signed up to this forum and was about to ask what all those letters stand for. [:I] luckily the ci cic xiccicicicic name this thread caught my attention.. anyhoo my mom [:o] drives a 318ti, what does the t stand for?
