Was driving from Tampa to Orlando around midnight on I-4 and I was playing tag with a tricked out IS300. He passes me at about 90 (I was going 80 or so), So I start to follow him and we hit 100 for about 30 seconds or so. Then he slows to about 90 and pulls into the right lane. I pass him at 110!!!!

The car didn't even feel any different than 80 I swear. It was SOOOOO smooth. And it got there in no time as well.

I am so impressed with this car.

Very nice! Yeah, I was in my friend's 2003 325i and he pushed it to 100 (he has personally hit like 120mph)...it felt the same as 60mph. It is amazing how there is no difference. I really can't wait until the break-in period of my car is over. I have like 660 miles on it already, just about another 600 to go. My car's top-speed is 155mph and I promised myself I am going to hit it at least once.

Well I had 1034 miles on her when I brought her up to 110 the other night. The manual says do not exceed 110 until 1200 miles so I hope I am OK.

I only had her at that speed momentarily.

I have been very religious about the break-in otherwise; constantly varying the speed, keeping RPMs under 4500, not using cruise control at all.

I have never exceeded 4000 RPMs as far as I know. I didn't notice the RPMs at 110 though as I glanced down only for an instant that night.

I hope I didn't do any damage. She is running like a charm.

The price of these cars is in the upper 40's when all is said and done.

Worth it if you are into driving one of the finest automobiles in the world.

It seems BMW is on the engineering advancement cusp in so many areas.[thumb]

bmwrocks, you're doing fine. It's really hard to break-in engines improperly now. For example, when I hit 600 miles on my car the other night, I punched it twice in first gear to 5,500rpm and I know my car is going to be fine. BMW engineering is really great and they pretty much design the car so that within the break-in period you can just drive the car....you don't have to baby it for the first 1,200 miles anymore.

WOW! How do you deal with the COP problem[:D] [:D] [:D] ??? Good radar detector, jammer or what???

I can also vouch for perfect bimmer stability at 110mph. I was testing mine for the first time and boy ... was it EASY to get up to that speed. It just kept on going. I say to my father-in-law: "Are we really doing 110?" It felt just like 60. The interior is sooo quiet!

that would be a stellar option, but it'd cost a helluva lot. and who'd do it? the dealer's
teenage service boys? i'm sure they wouldn't be as religious as some owners are.

As I said before, most engines are ready to go right from the start. VW/Audi engines, you can pretty much push them as much as you want during their break-in period. This applies to Mercedes, as well. As for the Mercedes AMG cars, there is no break-in period for the engine...you can just push it as hard as you want...they break it in for you. At the AMG factory, where they hand-build the engines, once each engine is completed, they run the engine all the way to redline and make sure it puts out the rated horsepower (meaning the engine is running properly). After that, they spin the engine at different rpm's to break it in for you. This way, when you take delivery of your brand-new AMG car, you can just drive it how you want and the engine is already perfectly broken-in for you (which is also for the sake of the life of the car).

I also give the 330 a big [thumb] on high speed handling. I drove mine at 90 to 105 mph on the Autobahn for over 600 miles with 2 adults, 2 teens and 150 lbs. of luggage in the trunk. It's hard to believe but I COULD NOT tell the difference in handling empty vs. loaded! The difference in acceleration was only very slightly noticeable.

Wouldn't have worked Paddy. Had the radar detector going with plenty of cars in the distance you would have hit first, and I would have heard the waves with plenty of room to spare.

I also own a 99 Trans Am that has given me plenty of experience with radar detection.

Only way you would get me is if I am all alone on the road, and I would never be stupid enough to speed alone on the road!!

Don't forget BMW brakes are some of the best in the world.

Bimmers, M-B's & Boxster/911's at 100+... often.

With me, as a general rule of thumb, as long as you weren't [drinking] and there
wasn't a lot of [driving] on the road, if you were in one of the above vehicles,
than you probably got off with just a [spank] ing...

I have a 330i Perf. Pkg. on order, and I have a feeling I'm going to accumulate a lot
of points on my drivers lic. before it's over... [bigcry]

PaddyLV what color did you get? Was the guy in Riverside any help? This is the greatest car I have ever owned and you will love it. I was traveling down I-15 today in 6Th and needed to speed up to get by traffic, went from 65 to 85 in a snap even in 6th and smooth as glass. Great car[thumb]
