Looking For A Nice Deep Sound For My 330i

My 2001 330i has a nice sound but the sound mostly comes from the engine, not the back of the car at the exhaust. At idle, you can barley hear the exhaust, I am looking for a change. A throaty exhaust sound, different than all the other 330i in my neighborhod.

RD Sport makes some very good quality, aggressive systems (www.rdsport.com).

Eisenmann exhaust at www.eisenhaus.com. I like that you can customize the system a bit. These are very popular system on the E46.

The new Remus is also nice and throaty, but not too loud.BTW, Remus makes Hamann exhaust. Not sure about ACS.

UUC is also popular.

I don't have a clip, but my friend has it on his M Coupe. It is loud, especially under throttle afte 3K RPM. Not rice, bimmers in general have a richer sound, but more like an Americal muscle V6 (not deep enough for a V8). It's raspy also at idle. Very aggressive.

You mean the butterfly flap? I disconnected mine (under the trunk flooring). It's a bit louder now, but not drony.

I kept OEM exhaust simply because it is already a free-flowing system from the beginning.

None that I've noticed in over a year already.[???1] All it does is reduce drone at highway speeds. But there is no drone to begin with.

Look inside your exhaust and you'll see that one is blocked by a flap. That flap has a solenoid in the trunk that opens it. You will have to look under the carpeting to disconnect it. Don't have a picture of it, but search Bimmerfest.com.

It does make it louder, but not by much. You can hear it better with windows down or covered parking garages/tunnels.

The reason is that the car is aimed at general public, so some folks don't want to have an aggressive exhaust - those that don't care about performance, but want a comfortable luxury ride. So BMw decided to make an adjustable valve. it does not rob you of performance, since it opens under throttle. But at idle and when cruising at gentle throttle applications (i.e. hwy), the car is quieter.

Again the difference is not that much, but noticeable. If you want a deeper sounding exhaust, you are definitely better off buying aftermarket systems.

I just looked at the inside of the exhaust with the car off and the car at idle, I see in one of the exhaust pipes their is like a metal valve or flap, but its already open when the car is off and at idle. Am I looking at the right thing, why is it already open?

That's the thing. Hmmm, it should be closed when idle.... Maybe yours is broken (they do that often too BTW) and get stuck in the open position. Hey, then you don't even need to disconnect it.

Other than that i can't really tell you how to check it.

I disconnected it and it did sound louder. I did connect it back and can notice a slight difference (quieter) but not sure how it works when the flap is still open?!
I haven't heard anything about looking in the trunk under the carpet to disconnect it. The way i did it and have read about it is to look above the tail pipe way up under the bumper and there will be a little hose which is connected to the pipe which you can pull off. Plug the hose with a screw or something and tuck it behind the bumper so it doesn't show.

just look way up under the back bumper, or follow the top of the exhaust pipe (right one) until you see where there is a little rubber hose attached (size of a small straw) and pull it off and then just plug it. Check to see that you have the flap inside the pipe and it's setup on your car. I remember someone saying something before that it wasn't on all cars and maybe only on the 330's.
