redline is the factory's idea of the engine's limit.
sometimes they buid em better than they think,
and you can go over the red line usuing a chip.
however DO NOT shift into 2gear when you're
going 100mph, no chip or electronic rev limiter
will save you there =]
its good to rev your engine it helps reduce carbon
buildup (which is produced at low rpms) and also
keeps your injectors a little bit cleaner when you
go WOT

If you bounce off your rev limiter it still shouldn't break.
Anyway my friend hated his acura integra and every moning in the winter he would go out to his car, start it and floor it to bounce it off the limiter until it got completely warmed up.
my cousin ownes it now and to this day it doesn't smoke or have any other problems. I really wouldn't recommend doing it though. Not when it is cold at least. I don't know if he is just lucky or if it survived just cause he hated it.

you know i thought since your quote was right above what i said than you would know that i was going along with your bouncing off the rev limiter for a substantial amount of time... what you wrote was properly read don't fret.
Do you know for sure that it would overheat? Not saying for sure that it wouldn't cause i don't want to disagree with you. Do you know how fast your fan would be running if you were redlining with a hot engine? A mechanical fan would be heard a mile away. it would blow so much air i am not sure if you could overheat. but i never did try it on my car cause i'm not crazy and i love it.
I have a guess that when they produce a vehicle they redline it in neutral to make sure they can withstand a bouncing redline for a substantial amount of time.
In fact i do know that honda of america has all kinds of test like that. they take thier civics offroading and try to break them so they can improve them. I'm pretty sure they do the same with their engines.
